Amber Jacob previously served as a postdoctoral researcher with the University of Michigan’s Society of Fellows and Assistant Professor in U-M’s Department of Middle East Studies (2025–26). In 2026, she will take up an Assistant Professorship at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures (ISAC) and the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago.
Her research interests are focused on the history of Egyptian medicine and science in diachronic perspective, and their relationship to broader developments in the history of medicine and science in the ancient Middle East and Mediterranean, particularly through the cross-cultural exchange of knowledge. She is currently working on publishing the largest extant collection of Demotic medical papyri, which derive from the city of Tebtunis in the Fayum Oasis (to appear in The Carlsberg Papyri series under the siglum P.Tebt.Med.dem).
