Academic Bio
Chelsie is a PhD candidate and Franke Institute for the Humanities Dissertation Fellow writing a dissertation entitled "Watching Whiteness Work?: The Racialization of Jewish Women in Iraq and Israel/Palestine." In March 2020 their peer reviewed article was published in the Journal of Middle East Women's Studies. This article won the journal’s graduate student paper prize. Chelsie’s research has also appeared in the Journal of Jewish Identities. Their research and teaching interests include: gender and race in the modern Middle East, Middle East history, and intersectionality.
In autumn 2019 Chelsie was the instructor of record for Reading Cultures. They’ve also taught in: History of Iraq, Modern Middle East History, Arab America, Gender & Sexuality in World Civilizations, Readings in World Literature and Writing for Research. Chelsie has been a Chicago Center for Teaching Pedagogy Fellow and has served on the Humanities Dean’s Student Advisory Board and the NELC Student Advisory Board.
