Chenqing (Andy) An is a PhD student in Egyptology.

He was previously trained in both Egyptology (MPhil, University of Oxford) and Ancient History (MA, University College London). His research focuses on the economy of Ptolemaic Egypt, particularly its institutional dynamics evidenced through Demotic and Greek material.

He is also interested in cultural interaction between Greeks and Egyptians, the environmental history of Egypt, as well as comparative studies between Greece, Egypt, and China.

Andy is currently part of the Chicago Demotic Dictionary Project team. Though mainly trained as a historian and philologist, he is also active in the field, with excavation experience at sites in Egypt (Berenike), Greece (Pella), and the UK (Sedgeford).

He’s always happy to chat or offer advice about Egyptology—feel free to reach out! 😊
