Cuneiform Studies Near Eastern Art and Archaeology

My name is Madeline Ouimet, and I am a PhD student in Near Eastern Art and Archaeology as well as Cuneiform Studies. I study ancient Mesopotamian archaeology and Sumerian and Akkadian cuneiform texts. I have participated in archaeological fieldwork projects in the U.S., Israel, Turkey, and Iraqi Kurdistan. My interests focus on 'sensory archaeology' or 'the anthropology of the senses,' as my research and future research center on understanding how encultured sensory experiences, activities, and the ways people in the ancient world thought about their own sensoria, particularly in contexts of non-elite daily life, play a fundamental role in shaping historically-specific social structures and phenomena as well as the ancient urban built world and its material-cultural phenomena.
