NELC alumnus Andrew Mines (B.A. 2018) has announced his collaboration on the new podcast series Mosul and the Islamic State, the final episode of which just released on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and several other platforms.
The podcast follows the story of the Iraqi historian and citizen journalist Omar Mohammed, who wrote under the pen name of 'Mosul Eye' from his home city of Mosul when ISIS occupied the city. The series tells untold stories from inside ISIS's reign over the city, the group's origins, the pursuit of justice for victims of ISIS, and the struggles of the people of Mosul for a better future. Interviewed guests include former Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi, GEN David Petraeus, ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan QC, Editor in Chief of The National Mina al-Oraibi, and many other Iraqi citizens.
Recently, the podcast hosted a launch event with representatives from Yazda (a global Yazidi aid and relief NGO), Mosuli musicians and entrepreneurs, and Ahmed Albasheer of the Albasheer Show.
