ندعوكم للانضمام إلينا هذا الأسبوع لمحاضرة بعنوان "أبرز المطربات السعوديات في القرن العشرين: توحة وعتاب وابتسام لطفي" تلقيها الباحثة والكاتبة كاي كامبل.

نرحب هذا الأسبوع بكاي كامبل الباحثة والكاتبة في الثقافة والفنون في الجزيرة العربية وخاصة في المملكة العربية السعودية. تخرجت كاي في اللغة العربية وشؤون الشرق الأوسط من جامعة مينيسوتا وحصلت على الماجستير من جامعة هارفارد في شؤون الشرق الأوسط بالإضافة إلى ماجستير في إدارة الأعمال من جامعة نورثايسترن في مدينة بوستن. عاشت في المملكة العربية السعودية حيث بدأت في البحث عن موضوع الفنون الشعبية والثقافة السعودية اثناء اقامتها في جدة وكتبت عن هذه المواضيع للصحف الانجليزية في السعودية. بعد عودتها إلى الولايات المتحدة تعلمت عزف العود ونظرية الموسيقى العربية. كاي واحدة من مؤسسي الدورة السنوية للموسيقى العربية The Arabic Music Retreat والتي تقام في كليو ماونت هوليوك وتعمل فيها كمديرة ادارية مع المدير الفني والرئيسي الاستاذ سيمون شاهين. كتبت كاي عدة مقالات لمجلة أرامكو ورلد في مواضيع الموسيقى العربية والثقافة السعودية كما كتبت روايتين - "قافلة العرائس" و "أبناء فاس".

The Arabic Circle wishes you a happy and blessed new year and we hope that you enjoyed your holidays.
We are back to our weekly talks this quarter and we would like to welcome you all to this week's talk on "The Most Significant Saudi Female Singers of the 20th Century: Tuha, Itab, and Ibtisam Lutfi" by the writer and researcher Kay Campbell.

Kay Campbell is a researcher and writer on culture and the arts in the Arabian Gulf and with a focus on Saudi Arabia. Kay holds a degree in Arabic Language and Middle Eastern studies from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree from Harvard in Middle Eastern studies, and a master's degree in Business Administration from NorthWestern University in Boston. She lived in Saudi Arabia where she began researching Saudi folk arts and culture, and where she also wrote about these topics for English language newspapers in Saudi. After returning to the United States, Kay learnt to play the oud and Arabic musical theory. Kay is the administrative director of the Arabic Musical Retreat at Mount Holyoke College. She is a cofounder of this annual week-long event alongside executive and administrative director, Simon Shaheen. She has written several articles on the topic of Arabic music and Saudi culture for the journal Aramco World. She has also authored two novels, "A Caravan of Brides" and "The Sons of Fez".
