Please join us Wednesday, November 13th, at 4:30pm, in Pick 218 for a presentation by Ashkan Bahrani titled "Iranians and the Palestine Question: Revisiting Rashid Khalidi's 100 Years' War on Palestine".
Ashkan Bahrani is a translator and an assistant professor of religion and history at AUI in Morocco. Having earned his Ph.D. in religious studies from Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee, he has served Monash University in Melbourne as a postdoctoral research associate for two years before settling in Ifrane, Morocco. His main field of interests are method and theory in the study of religion as well as Arabic and Persian premodern Sufism. That said, translation is his bread and butter in the past decade: Umar al-Suhrawardi: Studies, Translations, Editions (2022: Brill) and Persian translation of Ahmet Karamustafa's Sufism: the Formative Period and Veronique Mottier's Sexuality: A Very Short Introduction are among his works of translation.
Most recently, his translation of Rashid Khalidi's The One Hundred Years' War on Palestine (published by Nogaam publishers in London in September 2024) tackles the centennial war on Palestinians waged by the Zionist movement and later the state of Israel, examining this long history of colonial conquest and resistance through 7 declarations of war. Indispensable and illuminating, Khalidi's work sheds light for the Iranians on the lesser known dimension of this conflict. In this talk, Bahrani will elaborate on the significance of this monograph particularly for the Iranian audience.

لطفا این چهارشنبه، ساعت ۱۶:۳۰، برای سخنرانی اشکان بحرانی با عنوان «ایرانیان و مسئله‌ی فلسطین: بازدیدی از جنگ صدساله با فلسطین نوشته‌ی رشید خالدی» با ما همراه باشید.
اشکان بحرانی مترجم و استادیار مطالعات دین و تاریخ در دانشگاه الاخوین در افران مراکش است. دکتری مطالعات دین از دانشگاه وندربیلت در نشویل تنسی دارد و پیش از الاخوین دو سال در دانشگاه موناش در ملبورن استرالیا پست‌داک گذرانده است. روش و نظریه‌ی مطالعه‌ی دین و تصوف پیش‌مدرن عربی و فارسی زمینه‌های کار او و ترجمه علاقه‌ی اصلی اوست. پیش از این ترجمه‌ی انگلیسی و تصحیح انتقادی و پژوهش مجموعه‌ای از رساله‌های عمر سهروردی را به همراه آیدوغاس کارس با نشر بریل و چند تک‌نگاری را در حوزه‌ی دین و تصوف از انگلیسی به فارسی برگردانده است از جمله تصوف روزگار تکوین نوشته‌ی احمد قرامصطفی و سکسوالیته نوشته‌ی ورونیک موتیه.
ترجمه‌ی جنگ صدساله با فلسطین: تاریخچه‌ی استعمار شهرک‌نشین و مقاومت تازه‌ترین ترجمه‌ای است که به همت نشر نوگام منتشر شده است. در این اثر، خالدی تاریخ نزاع جنبش صهیونیستی و بعداً دولت اسرائیل را با فلسطینیان در قالب هفت اعلان جنگ بررسی می‌کند. این اثر برای خواننده‌ی فارسی‌زبان که می‌خواهد با سرشت استعماری این نزاع و تاریخ پرفراز و نشیب جنگ با فلسطینیان آشنا شود ناگزیر و راهگشاست. بحرانی در این گفتار درباره‌ی اهمیت این اثر برای ایرانیان و خوانندگان فارسی زبان خواهد گفت.
