Dr. Nicholas Boylston is a scholar of Islamic Studies at Seattle University focusing on Shii Studies, Quranic Studies, Sufism and Persian literature. He received his BA from Harvard College, his MA from the University of Tehran, and his PhD from Georgetown University, and from 2017 to 2021 he taught at Harvard University as Lecturer and College Fellow. He is currently investigating the role of Quranic exegesis in the development, and the articulation and negotiation of Shii-Sufi thought and identity. He is writing a manuscript on Sayyid Ḥaydar Āmulī’s Quran commentary The Greatest Ocean. He also studies the development of pluralistic modes of discourse in 12th century Persian literature, and has published on Ḥakīm Sanā’ī and ‘Ayn al-Quḍāt Hamadānī.
The title of his talk is “The Importance of "Unity" and "Diversity" in 6th Century Gnostic Literature: The Poet Sanaī and ʿAyn al-Quḍāt Hamadānī.”

لطفا این پنجشنبه در "زوم" برای سخنرانی آقای نیکولاس بویلستون با ما همراه باشید! نیکولاس بویلستون استادیار دین اسلام در دانشگاه سیاتل است. ایشان لیسانس خود را از دانشگاه هاروارد، کاشناسی ارشد از دانشگاه تهران، و دکترای خود را از دانشگاه جورجتاون یافت. از سال 2017 تا 2021 در دانشگاه هاروارد درس داد. تمرکز مطالعت او بر ادبیات فارسی، تشیع، قرآن، و عرفان میباشد، و او در حال حاضر کتابی در باره تفسیر سید حیدر آملی المحیط الاعظم می نویسد. علاوه بر این او شیوه های گفتمان در ادبیات فارسی قرن دوازدهم را مطالعه می کند، و درباره حکیم سناعی و عین القضات همدانی نوشته است.
