How does poetry teach? Can text create an imaginative oral environment for the reader? How did Sufi poets engage their audience? In this talk, Austin O'Malley addresses these questions with a brief review of his new book. Austin O’Malley is an Assistant Professor of Persian Literature in University of Chicago, Department of Middle Eastern Studies. He is a scholar of classical Persian literature with a special interest in performance, textuality, and reception, particularly in Sufi contexts.
