On Tuesday April 6th, 5pm CST, for spring term's first installment of Persian Movie Night, we will be watching Maxx (2005), a fish-out-of-water comedy in which a washed-up Iranian-American pop singer living in LA is mistakenly invited back to Iran by the Ministry of Culture to give a tour showcasing his work. The film is a humorous take on the perennially relevant issue of 'brain drain' (فرار مغزها) in Iran, and it amusedly depicts the increasingly unbridgeable gap between Iran and its LA-based diaspora.
All the films we show have English subtitles, and everyone is welcome! In addition to the usual suspects, we are particularly looking forward to welcoming prospective UChicago students to this event!
